Artist

John Blackie was born and raised in Alberta and for the past 40 years has worked as a Production Designer in film and television. The bulk of his Film work is set in the Western landscape that he knows and loves. From the early work with Anne Wheeler like Bye Bye Blues, Angel Square, Cowboys Don’t Cry and The Diviners, to recent television, like Hell on Wheels, Tin Star, and Fargo, John’s work is informed by a strong sense of place. This grounded reality marks his work and his approach to work. Appreciating the value of the people around him and their contribution to the collaboration of story telling. His strength lies in the sharing of the creative process.

In his down time, John loves to work in his studio creating works of glass inspired by nature. He is often seen going to the studio before breakfast to see what creations await in the kiln.
